What do our 2013 Apportionment Dollars support?

The 2012 session of the Northern Illinois Annual Conference approved a budget of $8.4 million for 2013.  Local church apportionments account for nearly 80% (around $6.7 million) of the total sources of income next year. The Northern Illinois Conference budget is divided into three areas funded by three Apportionment Funds:
  • Support for Ordained Leadership
  • Mission and Evangelism
  • Strengthening the Connection
For 2013, Apportionment dollars are extended to mission and ministry around the world in the following ways:
Apportionment Dollars at Work


Support for Ordained Leadership

22% of Apportionment dollars strengthen local churches directly through Conference services, District Superintendents & Administrators, clergy moving costs, equitable compensation, emergency grants;
4% provides scholarships for seminarians through the Ministerial Education Fund.

Mission & Evangelism

25% of Apportionment dollars funds life-transforming mission and ministry here in the Northern Illinois Conference. This includes new church development & redevelopment, NIC programming and benevolences.
15% supports mission and ministry around the world through the World Service Fund; 
2% Black Colleges Fund;
1% Africa University.

Strengthening the Connection

25% of Apportionment dollars supports the ministry of administration in the Northern Illinois Conference, through the Episcopal and Regional offices, the Treasurer's office, NIC website and communication, and Annual Conference sessions;
4% provides salaries for all UMC Bishops and pensions for retired UMC Bishops through the Episcopal Fund;
2% strengthens the connection throughout the denomination through the Jurisdictional and General Administration Funds and the Interdenominational Cooperation Fund.
